3 Lessons [Gems] I learnt from children!

I was taking a casual stroll one evening at our apartment complex. I saw a small boy, my son’s friend, after a long time. Both of us were wearing a mask.

Me: Suhaas?

Suhaas: Yes. Hi Uncle!

Me: Hi Suhaas!

Suhaas: How are you, uncle?

I was pleasantly surprised.

Me: I am fine, Suhaas. How are you?

Suhaas: Fine uncle.

Some other time, I saw another boy playing Frisbee. Accidentally the Frisbee landed on the head of a woman sitting in a bench. The woman’s husband took the Frisbee. The boy came and said “Sorry uncle”. The man scolded him and gave him a big lecture for a long time. The boy, you won’t believe, kept saying sorry with folded hands during the entire transaction. Finally, the man, who was still not convinced, threw the Frisbee in another direction, a long way off. The boy went and picked it up.

Yet another time, I was watching two small girls playing badminton from the window of my 12th floor apartment. The game was simply superb. They didn’t drop the ball [well, cock] for a long time. A gold medal is waiting for India. PV Sindhu or Saina Nehwal will be happy to coach these girls, I am sure.

Children are too good these days. We have quite a few things to learn from them. Being enthusiastic & laughing all the time are not the only ones.

Three separate incidents. And three lessons for all of us in Sales.

Takeaways:

  1. Say ‘Hello’ to your customers & start a conversation once in a while.
  2. Say ‘Sorry’ to your customers/erstwhile customers if you had made a mistake. Folding hands is not required but it won’t hurt either.
  3. Work hard and bring your ‘A’ game. The Gold Medal is waiting for you.

Happy Selling!
