Goals! A minimalist approach!
It’s that time of the year when we all set our goals & aim for some transformation.
All of us are nothing but “Work in Progress”!
We don’t know what we are capable of. That’s our problem. Re-read that sentence with the “until we try” phrase.
There is some fear in us that is stopping us from achieving what we want to achieve.
Hence, we postpone things. Until it is New Year’s eve. There’s a word for that. It’s called “Procrastination”.
Let us take a look at some of the “most popular” goals. I am sure that this list looks familiar to you.
- Start doing exercises regularly and get back to your younger self.
- Quit smoking.
- Quit alcohol.
- Read books.
- Start meditation.
- Spend more time with family & friends.
- Start a Vegan diet.
- Go on a road trip.
- Go on a vacation to an unknown, distant place where the language, culture, food are completely new to you.
- Meet your customers face to face. [Not on zoom.]
- Take up that long pending training and sit for certification.
- Learn music.
The problem with a big list of goals is this: It’s too scary. And it leads to starting trouble. Starting is half-doing, they say. But that’s where the problem is.
I will tell you one simple thing to do.
I’d like to call it – “the minimalist way”.
Take just one goal. Start working on that goal for one month. Achieve that goal. Then repeat that process with another goal.
How to read a book?
One page at a time. Simple, isn’t it?
The goals are interesting because it gives us hope. But a huge list of goals is a non-starter.
That’s why I am suggesting “The minimalist way”. The goals don’t overwhelm you anymore. You have only one goal to think of, now. Give it all that you have. Achieve that goal before moving on to the next one.
Take a look at one of my older posts for some inspiration: https://zignalytics.com/2018/08/15/freedom-from-fear/
A quote from Mark Victor Hansen:
You control your future, your destiny. What you think about comes about. By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands – your own.
Mark Victor Hansen
In conclusion, goals are the ones that keep us moving forward in life, career & business. It’s very important to have bigger goals because they give us a purpose in life.
Happy Goal-Setting!
Happy Achieving!
Wish you a Very Happy [& Healthy] New Year 2022!
